Award Ceremony 2020

On 26 October 2020 the winners of the Green Talents Competition 2020 have been honoured during our first virtual Green Talents Award Ceremony. Parliamentary State Secretary Dr Michael Meister has awarded 25 young dedicated ambassadors of global sustainability and valued their contributions worldwide to create a sustainable society.

A high-ranking jury of experts honoured 25 young researchers from 22 different countries as Green Talents 2020. Awarded annually since 2009, this year's winners were selected out of 589 applicants from 87 countries representing tomorrow's leading scientists in the field of sustainable development.

Due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's Green Talents Science Forum took place in a fully online format as a Virtual Science Forum for the first time ever. It took the 25 Green Talents on an exciting virtual journey where they could explore Germany’s sustainability research landscape, network with German researchers and got to know their fellow award winners. The awardees remotely visited German research institutions, universities and organisations concerned with sustainability science and discussed their projects with local experts.

By having the chance to establish contacts with the German science community and exchange exciting ideas with some of its key innovators, the awardees were able to lay the foundations for future cooperation. These opportunities are accompanied by an invitation to come to Germany in 2021 for a fully funded research stay at an institution of their choice.
