Burak Guzelturk, PhD candidate at Bilkent University in Turkey was awarded for Photonics21 Student Innovation Award for his achievements in photonics research. In his PhD work, Burak has developed all-solution-processed lasers of colloidal semiconductor quantum dots and quantum wells. These novel light sources offer single-material, full-color and highly-efficient laser technology promising for a broad range of applications including lighting, displays, spectroscopy, biomedicine and healthcare.
In his work, Burak demonstrated record-breaking optical gain coefficients in the semiconductor nanocrystals enabling ultra-low lasing thresholds. His achievements highlight that the colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are highly promising materials for next-generation energy-efficient optoelectronics, especially for lasers.
