Professor Dr Teutsch

Professor Dr Georg Teutsch, Scientific Director, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ)

Professor Teutsch is Vice-President of the Helmholtz-Association and Coordinator of the “Earth and Environment“ research field. He is a member of several scientific boards, councils and commissions including the Advisory Board "German Biomass Research Centre Leipzig”, the German Commission on Water Research and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research .

In 2004 Prof. Dr Teutsch joined the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Leipzig as the Scientific Director having more than 30 years of scientific expertise. Throughout his career he has been involved in over 80 projects and published more than 60 international publications in the field of geology and hydrology including subsurface investigation and monitoring techniques, risk assessment and remediation of contaminated sites as well as arid zone and Karst hydrology. In 1986 he completed his PhD at the Geological Institute of the University of Tübingen and became a professor for Geohydrology at the University of Stuttgart in 1991 at the young age of 35.

Prof. Dr Teutsch studied Geology at the University of Tübingen with a consecutive M. Sc. in Hydrogeology at University of Birmingham (UK).
